There are four major Cochlear Implant Manufacturers in the world. They are:
In New Zealand there are two CI programmes. The Northern Cochlear Implant Programme provides the option of Cochlear devices only. They support Med El and Advanced Bionics devices as well but will not implant them unless privately funded.
The Southern Cochlear Implant Programme currently provides Cochlear devices only for newly assessed patients unless there is medical justification to use some of the features of the MED-EL devices. Like the northern programme they will implant MED-EL and even Advanced Bionics devices if privately funded. They support Cochlear, Med El and Advanced Bionics devices.
