As part of the recent announcement of a one off funding drop for adult cochlear implants, the Ministerial press release made an interesting comment.

In the notes to editors, the Minister concludes the release with the following sentence…

“The processors need to be replaced about every six to seven years, which costs about $10,000 each time.”

2ears2hear is happy the Minister accepts that sound processors have a finite life and “need to be replaced about every six to seven years”. We expect to see this reflected in future service specifications with the CI trusts.
